Who We Are

With survivors and activists in more than 120 cities and communities across the globe and more than 100 Komen Race for the Cure® events in the United States and internationally, Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the most progressive grassroots organization fighting breast cancer today and the St. Louis Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® became part of that network in 1999. 

The Susan G. Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure® hit the ground running that same year and the first St. Louis Race immediately earned the distinction of being the largest road race ever held in the city.  The 10,257 St. Louis Race participants set and still hold a Komen record as the largest first-year event of any Race around the globe.  Today, the Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure has had more than 60,000 participants the last five years and is one of the top three largest 5K Races in the world!

The Komen St. Louis Affiliate is working to better the lives of those facing breast cancer in the local community and addresses the needs of our community by funding breast health programs in our 17-county service area.  To date, the Affiliate has raised more than $19 million through various fundraising events like the Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure and Dine Out for the Cure®.  More than $13 million has stayed in St. Louis to fund screening, treatment, education and research programs with $6 million going to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Grants Program to fund research.
